I am pleased to have recently been selected by Fianna Fáil as a candidate to run for the Cappamore – Kilmallock local area elections being held on 24th of May 2019. I live in Cappamore with my wife Carrie and our four children, Erin, Teagan, Martin and Kate. Up to now I have never considered myself as a Politician, if I was to label myself it would be as a “Community Person” and it was from the encouragement Of Noel Gleeson MCC who is stepping down as Councillor that I took the decision to go forward as a candidate in order to continue with good effective representation for our area.
I was brought up in a household that encouraged supporting local GAA clubs, rugby, soccer, businesses, community development and day-care centre.I am involved in the Cappamore Show committee, Twinning Association, and local school Parents Council. I grew up and worked on the family farm now run by my brother Tim and along with brothers Declan and Brendan we continue to operate the family transport business Martin Ryan and Sons which is approaching 60 years in operation and employ nearly 100 people both locally and nationally.
I feel it is a privilege to live and work in our community, a privilege that sadly only an increasing minority can avail of.Rural communities are part of our heritage but living in rural Ireland is becoming more challenging as not a month goes by where we hear of more Post Office closures or lack of public transport or increased crime. Since the amalgamation of the City and County Councils I feel that county communities have come under more pressure competing with the growing City for badly needed funds to grow and develop. I feel so strongly that I believe the only way I can make a real difference is by becoming a local councillor.
There are 40 councillors in the Limerick City and County Council and the Cappamore – Kilmallock area needs a strong representative to make sure it gets its fair share of available funds and assistance. I know I have the personal attributes to work effectively within the Council framework. I believe that I am a people person and can and do work and get on with people from every walk of life. On Friday the 24th of May I am asking for your No.1 vote in the local elections so that I can ensure your needs and those of the Cappamore – Kilmallock area are responded to. In the meantime if I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me Kind Regards Martin
